Zorona hookah lounge- coming soon!
Opening at new location near Vassar College
One
of the oldest and deep rooted traditions in Turkey is the Hookah, with
both men and women finding great pleasure in smoking the waterpipe.
Even today the hookah gives enjoyment to a special breed of smokers.
The original hookahs came from India, made out of coconut shell. Its
popularity spread to Iran and then to the rest of the world.
"Smoking a hookah is nothing like smoking a
cigarette," a 71-year-old pensioner named Ismet said as he looked up
from his pipe. "Cigarettes are for nervous people, competitive people,
people on the run. When you smoke a hookah, you have time to think. It
teaches you patience and tolerance, and gives you an appreciation of
good company. Hookah smokers have a much more balanced approach to
life." "It's a complete experience," said Ahmed Metin, a
48-year-old Turkish sailor. "In a cafe like this one, you find the good
people, the old people, the interesting people. As long as there is a
need for company and friendship, as long as people want to stop and
think, there will be hookah cafes."
